The construction project along Rütistrasse in Rapperswil serves as a paradigmatic example of the symbiosis between urban density and landscape integration. The sloped plot opens to the north, facing the busy cantonal road and the valley, while the southern side borders a quiet single-family residential neighborhood. This interplay between urbanity and nature shapes the architectural concept, enabling a multifaceted interaction with the surrounding environment.

The development manifests itself in two white building volumes that rest like twin structures in the green field – a metaphor that emphasizes the dual nature of the project: urban and enclosed toward the street, open and light-filled toward the hillside landscape. The access via a gently sloping ramp and the centrally positioned forecourt function as a communication space, fostering encounters between residents and visitors and orchestrating the transition between private and public realms.

The architectural composition reflects a profound engagement with the urban context and creates a connection between built and natural environments through the deliberate integration of transparency and materiality. The cubist form language of the structures is articulated by horizontal and vertical concrete bands, emphasizing the modularity of the façade and establishing a rhythmic dialogue with the surroundings. The strategic use of exposed concrete and expansive glazing conveys an elegant, industrial aesthetic that embodies both transparency and openness.

The vertical layering of the buildings is accentuated by staggered balconies and recessed façade elements, which not only create a visual play of light and shadow but also support functional differentiation and privacy within the residential units. Generous glass surfaces establish a strong visual connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, enhancing natural light and maintaining a continuous relationship with the surrounding environment.

The clear lines and precise geometry of the façades underscore the urban presence of the development, while the targeted integration of trees and green spaces along Rütistrasse and between the buildings creates a seamless transition to the surrounding landscape. This green corridor acts as a link between the city and nature, providing space for interaction and encounters, and anchoring the project within its landscape context.

The spatial organization was influenced by the noise pollution from the nearby cantonal road, leading to a careful arrangement of the living areas. The residential units are divided into an open living area and a quieter sleeping zone, allowing for clear functional separation. The living area extends into a spacious winter garden, serving as a multifunctional space that enhances the flexibility of use, while the bedrooms are located on the quieter southern side, with direct access to wraparound balconies. These balconies act as a buffer zone, establishing a continuous connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, effectively dissolving the boundaries of the living area.

The strategic location of the project combines urban vibrancy with the tranquility of nature by integrating the advantages of proximity to the city and the lake with excellent access to transportation routes. Despite the urban setting, the south-facing apartments offer a retreat-like oasis, blending urban living quality with natural relaxation and creating a multifaceted living environment.

The interior spaces reflect an architectural philosophy centered on transparency, flexibility, and a profound connection to nature. The minimalist design language, combined with high-quality materials and a thoughtfully conceived spatial organization, embodies the principles of modern architecture. The integration of indoor and outdoor spaces, along with the flexible use of open areas, offers a contemporary living solution that meets the complex demands of modern life.
